Mangaluru: “Those who were displaced from the Mandara and Pachanady areas after the landslides at the dumping yard should be adequately compensated and the government must take suitable measures to provide them with a livelihood,” said former chief minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday, August 31.

He was addressing the reporters after visiting Pachanady, where heavy rains caused landslides at the dumping yard resulting in the displacement of several people, who are now facing problems due to large amounts of garbage flowing towards their homes and plantations.

Upon his arrival at the spot, those affected by the disaster approached and told him their grievances.

MLA and former minister U T Khader, who was accompanying the former CM, explained to him the problems of the people and spoke of the district administration’s poor response towards the victims.

After his visit, Siddaramaiah moved on to the Belthangady taluk to visit the flood-hit areas and console the affected families.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, former MLA Moideen Bava, former mayors Bhaskar K, Shashidhar Hegde, Kavitha Sanil and others were present.
