Short-term course on journalism kick starts at Sandesha

Mangalore: Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education, Mangalore, in collaboration with Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies and Canara Communication Centre, organized Journalism Course 2014 at its institute on September 10. The course will go on till September 27.

Fr. Francis Rodrigues, Editor of Rakno weekly inaugurated the occasion. He said that today journalism is not just the profession of few but everyone who expresses opinion on current issues rather than keeping quiet.

While, another senior journalist and a key speaker Vincent D’Souza said that a person should have nose for news, the journalist must be sensitive towards atrocities or other issues taking place in the society. He/she should posses qualities of observing and patience to listen. He also said that the technology too has helped in providing immediate news to the people.

Sandesha director Fr Victor Vijay Lobo said classes are being held daily on weekdays from 5pm to 7.30pm. Leading working journalists and eminent writers from the regional and national media would be the resource persons during the course, he said.

The course is intended to be an introduction to journalism covering the various aspects of print, broadcast and web media. The participants will be awarded certificates during the valedictory function which will be held on September 27.
