Mangaluru: Sharada Group of Institutions has announced the opening of two medical degree courses- BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) and BNYS (Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences) at Devinagara, Talapady, for the academic year 2019-20.
Both courses are affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. While BAMS is recognised by the Ministry of AYUSH and Central Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), BNYS is recognised by the Government of Karnataka.
Prof M B Puranik, President of Sharada Group of Institutions told reporters here on Friday, September 6, that there was a strong demand from the students and their parents to start professional degree courses in Indian Medicine Systems. “The duration of both the courses are five and a half years. It is a dream come true as we have got the approval from the Ministry of AYUSH and also from the Government of Karnataka to start these two courses. Both Ayurveda and Naturopathy are the future of medicine and to add to that, we have full-fledged and multi-speciality teaching hospitals treating number of patients for various diseases and other health issues. As it is an excellent opportunity for medical aspirants, they should utilise this opportunity,” he said.
Informing about the facilities available at the college, Puranik said, “Both the colleges have state-of-the-art infrastructure with highly experienced and qualified faculty, 100 bedded teaching hospitals, gallery classrooms, modernised labs, vast collection of digital resources, auditorium, hostel facility, sports and recreational activities which are conducive for learning. There are 60 seats each for the BAMS and BNYS courses this year. Informing about the admission criteria for BAMS, Ayurveda College Principal Prof Dr. Raviganesh Mogra said, “Clearance of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) is a must for enrolling in the BAMS course. The age limit for joining the course is 17- 35 years.”
Principal of Yoga and Naturopathy College Dr. Rajesh Padekal informed that the BNYS course does not require NEET qualification this year. “But those who join the course should have scored at least 45 per cent marks in the Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) subjects in PUC,” he said.
