Mangaluru: A Kannada lecturer of a private college who was accused of allegedly harassaing a II PU girl sexually, committed suicide on March 14.

Harish Acharya, a resident of Bantwal is the deceased. The allegations were made by the girl a year ago and had been absconding since then.

A group of students of the college had protested against the girl for false allegations. The management of the college too defended the accused lecturer. Following the complaint on the behaviour of the said student who had filed complaint, the lecturers conducted an inquiry and she was found guilty and was asked to write an apology letter.

However, the matter was closed and police didnot detain the accused lecturer. But ever since the false allegations were levelled against him, Harish was deppressed and underwent treatment at Manipal hospital. On Monday, he took the extreme step when his brother was away from home.

Bantwal police have registered a case in this regard and further investigation is on.
