Mangaluru: The Sixth Additional District and Sessions Court Judge D T Puttarangaswamy on February 24, awarded life imprisonment till death to serial killer Cynaide Mohan for the rape and murder of a 28-year-old woman from Megina Maladi of the Bantwal Taluk on 25 September 2009.
The court convicted Cynaide Mohan under IPC section 302 (murder) with life imprisonment till death; section 392 (robbery) with six years rigorous imprisonment; section 201(causing disappearance of evidence of offence) with five years rigorous imprisonment; section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) with seven years rigorous imprisonment; section 366 (kidnapping) with six years rigorous imprisonment; section 376 (rape) with seven years rigorous imprisonment and section 417 (cheating) with six months rigorous imprisonment.
The convict has to pay a fine of Rs 3,000 for each section and in case of default, he has to serve one month rigorous imprisonment.
Upholding the judgement of the Additional District and Sessions Court, the High Court had awarded death sentence to Mohan in one murder case and five years of rigorous imprisonment and life imprisonment till death in two other cases.
Cyanide Mohan has been accused in 20 murder cases. His guilt has been proven in court in five of these cases.
