Mangalore : Three persons sustained serious injuries in a serial accident involving a lorry bus and a Maruti Omni near Tokkottu Kapikad on NH 66 on September 29, Sunday.
Those injured are Siju (25) of Kasargod, the driver of the Kerala state bus, lorry drivers Vishayan (40) and Anup (28) of Ponnadi in Kerala.
The Kerala super fast bus which was heading towards Mangalore from Kannur in its bid to overtake another vehicle hit a fish lorry heading towards Kerala. A Maruti Omni which was behind the bus too collided against the bus.
The locals struggled for over half an hour to get the bus and lorry drivers who were stuck inside the badly mangled vehicles. The lorry driver Vishayan was finally rescued by the fire service personnel. John and Naveen who were in the Maruti Omni were however unhurt. The bus passengers sustained minor injuries. However, none were hospitalized.
The traffic was disrupted on the route for over an hour following the incident. The Ullal police with the help of public regulated the traffic and ensured smooth movement of vehicles. Locals have said the one-way road in the area was the main reason for the accident. They said the highway works have not been taken up even a month after the closure of the other side of the road for traffic.
