Puttur: Puttur police arrested a 68-year-old man on Sunday, September 23, for allegedly sexually assaulting an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker.

The arrested accused has been identified as Haji Mohammed Kunhi, a resident of Paduvanooru village near here.

The incident allegedly occurred on September 20, when the woman was on her way home from work. According to the complaint, the senior citizen grabbed the woman’s hand and tried to sexually assault her. The man was absconding for three days after the incident till he was arrested by the police on Sunday. He has been booked under IPC sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 354 (sexual assault).

The arrested accused has been remanded to 15 days judicial custody after being produced before the local magistrate.
