SDM Polytechnic college lecturers launch special dustbins in buses

Belthangady: Clean and independent India was Mahatma Gandhiji’s dream. Dr Veerendra Heggade, Dharmasthala Dharmadikari has been instrumental in fulfilling Gandhi’s dream by implementing several projects and the new project is surely unique.

To prevent waste being thrown in buses, SDM Ujire Polytechnic college lecturers under the guidance of Dr Heggde have come up with a new idea. The travellers often get uncomfortable due to packets, liquor bottles, plastic thrown all over the bus. Even those who are aware of hygeine dump waste since there is no proper arrangement to collect waste.

Along with creating awareness among people about cleanliness, there should be proper system and equipment to collect waste. People travelling, buy snacks but they can not go down the bus to find a dustbin to dispose the waste. Thus the team of lecturers have placed baskets inside the buses.

Hence, to help passengers, the team has come up with specially designed dustbins to be used in buses. The newly invented garbage basket has been installed in one of the KSRTC bus. Since it is made with less budget and if it is well promoted, there will be an end to garbage being thrown from buses.

Dr Veerendra Heggade launched the garbage collecting bin on Sunday August 27. Transport department Puttur DC Nagaraj, DMA Venugopal, DPO Muralidhar Acharya, Dharmasthala depot manager Sri Kamath Udupi and others were present. Nagraj said that a report on newly launched service will be submitted to transport department. “After getting permission we will install it in all the buses,” he added.

The new invention is guided by Dr Heggade, SDM college secretory Dr B Yashovarma, college principal K P Prasad, propritor Chandrakanth. Mechanical HOD Shreyans Jain led team lecturers Shivaraj, Mithun, Dhanraj, Shivaprasad, Santhosh, Chetan, Nayan, Prakash, Lohith and Ashok have made these unique bins.
