School student’s complaint gets response from State Home Minister!

Mangaluru: There are news reports of Prime Minister Narendra Modi responding to letters of citizens, but in first of its kind incident for sure, reported from Karnataka, Home Minister G Parameshwar has responded to an SMS of a student who brought to his notice the issue of transfer of four teachers from him school in a rather illegal manner.

Divith Rai, 8th standard student of Haradi Government school of Puttur sent an SMS to G Parameshwar. The SMS sent on Tuesday night read-” I am the Home Minister of Haradi Government School and I wish to speak to you for five minutes.”

The message informed that there are 432 students in Haradi school and that it has been acclaimed as an excellent performing school in Dakshina Kannada. There are 15 teachers and 13 classes. All the RTE guidelines are being followed, but yet the BEO has transferred four teachers of the school without citing any reason.

The message urged the home minister to cancel the transfers as it would put students into difficulty.

G Parameshwar, on Wednesday while speaking to reporters in Bengaluru informed about the message and called up Divith. However, when Divith’s mother received the call, she explained to him about the entire issue.

“Following a complaint from Home Minister of Haradi School, I, the Home Minister of Karnataka has spoken to Education Minister Tanveer Sait to take up the matter,” said G Parameshwar, with a smile on his face.

The students of Haradi school had boycotted the classes as a mark of protest against transfer of four teachers named- Yashodha, Vijaya, Shubhalatha and Lily D’Souza.

Divith has said that if the situation is like this then studying in government school will be difficult.

“None of our complaints have been heard so far, but I am happy that the Home Minister of Karnataka has responded to the complaint and I am sure that he will take action,” said Divith.
