Mangaluru: April is on its last leg and May is soon going to arrive. The summer vacations are on and it is the time when children usually pester their parents to take them out for holidays. While a gala holiday may be a reality for many, the children of government teachers may have to throw their hands in despair as government teachers in the state have not received their salary for the month of March!
While this is the plight of government school teachers, the teachers working in Rashtriya Madhyamika Shikshana Abhiyan (RMSA) have not received salary over the last four months and the honorary faculty of RMSA have not received salary over the last five months.
When the angry teachers contact the Education Department, pressing for their rights, the Education Department officials narrate their pangs stating that even they have not received their salary..
When the teachers and Education Department officials question Treasury officials, they point finger at the technical slag due to implementation of new system, which has some problems pertaining to coding.
On the other hand it is learnt that RMSA teachers have not been given salary due to paucity of funds.
Jayashree, a government school teacher is worried because she is the only bread winner of the family and it is time to pay her son’s school fees.
“I have no idea as to how to manage the show,” she says.
DDPI Walter D’Melo is quoted saying that delay in dispensation of funds at the Taluk Panchayat has led to the situation in the district. Apart from this, there has been technical glitch too, which is being set right. The salary will be credited soon.
However, the government teachers feel that they would spend the summer vacation in anticipation of the salary.
