Mangaluru: Naresh Shenoy, the prime accused in murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga, was remanded to judicial custody till July 11 by the 3rd judicial magistrate first class court on Saturday.
Shenoy was arrested at Hejamady near Udupi on June 26 was initially sent to police custody up to June 30. The court extended the custody by 48-hours up to July 2 on request from investigating officer K Tilakchandra, assistant commissioner of police, Mangaluru central sub-division.
Sanjeev M Patil, deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic) said that they might move the court again for extended custody if fresh evidence comes up during the course of investigations. He also said that the police would convey to the court not to grant the accused a bail as that would hinder the progress of the probe.
Shenoy was under police custody for the last few days.
It may be recalled that Vinayak Baliga was murdered on the morning of March 21 this year. Six persons were earlier arrested in connection to the case. The main conspirator and prime accused Naresh Shenoy was arrested on June 26, putting an end to his three month long run.
