RTI activist attacked in Ullal for seeking information on illegal lodge

Ullal: An RTI activist was brutally attacked in Ullal on Wednesday night after he tried to eke out information from the City Municipal Council with regard to an illegal lodge that has been functioning on the rooftop of a building.

The victim has been identified as Hamza Mohammed (22) from Melangadi in Ullal. He has been admitted to a local hospital.

Mohammed had filed an RTI to get information on how a lodge with 14 rooms has been functioning on the rooftop of a building in Melangadi area and why they have been allowed to release sewage from the lodges on to the street.

The locals have been complaining about the lodge and hence Mohammed moved to the CMC to seek answer.

However, on Wednesday night when Mohammed was returning from Ullal Dargah after his Namaz, the owner of the lodge and his aides splashed chilli powder on him. They then assaulted him with knives and clubs leaving Mohammed severely injured.

Case has been registered at Ullal station.
