Mangaluru: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Thursday seized saffron weighing 10.60 kg, approximately valued at Rs 12.72 lakhs from a passenger.

The passenger, identified as Mohammed Riyaz, a resident of Mogral Puttur, Kasargod district arrived at Mangalore International Airport on January 15 at about 08.00 am by Air India Express flight IX 814 from Dubai.
He had concealed 10.60 kg Iranian saffron with along with clothes and other personal effects inside the baggage he carried. There were 424 packets, each of 25 grams seized by the custom officials of Mangalore Airport.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of N Udaya Shankar, assistant commissioner of customs at Mangalore Airport. Further investigation is on under the guidance of D Purushottam, commissioner of customs.
