Rowdy-sheeter assaults Homestay attack accused in court premises

Mangaluru: An accused in notorious Homestay attack, which had hogged international attention, was attacked by a rowdy-sheeter in the district Court premises, on Saturday, June 4.

The attacker has been identified as Japan Manga, a rowdy-sheeter involved in many cases, who is presently out of jail on bail. It is said that his target was Subhash Padil one of the accused in the Homestay attack.

A total of 42 out of 44 homestay attack accused had come to VI district Court on the III Floor of the District Court complex as the case was posted for hearing. After the proceedings when the accused were coming out, Japan Manga waylaid them on the staircase and there was an altercation between the man and the accused. When the batch of accused reached the ground floor, he attacked a few with knife.

In a bid to save themselves, some accused pulled out the fire extinguishers and retaliated. Some even threw helmets on the attacker. At this point of time, the police sprung into action and caught hold of the attacker and snatched away the knife from him.

Police constables Harish, Mahanthesh and ASI Sridhar intervened and stopped the attack and took Japan Manga into immediately custody and prevented further attack that was likely to cause terror.

DCP Shantharaj, ACP Thilakachandra and inspectors Maruthi Nayak and Shantharam visited the spot.

Japan Manga has been taken to Bunder police station. Eye witness said that Japan Manga had come to the court in the morning before the court proceedings started and was seen wandering from one floor to another, much before he executed the attack. They say, he must have been planning the attack.

Police commissioner Chandra Shekar came to the court premises, appreciated the work done by the police personnel. Speaking to media police commissioner said, “Police personnel who were involved in this good job will be rewarded with Rs 2000 each and recommendation certificate.”

Mangalore Bar Association President S P Chengappa, said their Association will felicitate the police personnel.
