Mangaluru: The Malabar Round Table 115 in association with Rikshaw Challenge authorities flagged off the Malabar Rampage-Rickshaw Challenge 2016, from the premises of a Government School at Mallikatte in Kadri on Thursday, April 7.

As many as 38 participants from different countries interacted with the kids and had breakfast with them. They had come all the way from Trivandrum in their rikshaws.

The 1400 km Rikshaw Challenge Malabar Rampage – 2016 is an adventure rally or challenge done using auto-rikshaws. The adventure will run for 7 days. The participants left Trivandrum on April 3 and will reach their destination, Panaji in Goa by April 9.

The aspiring adventurers had come from countries as far as U.K., U.S., Australia, New Zealand, France, Sweden and India looking for an experience of a lifetime. They will have to rely on the locals at each destination to guide them along.

Along the way, the participants of the rickshaw challenge will be making a difference in the lives of the underprivileged by raising funds for various projects of Round Table India under their flagship programme ‘Freedom through Education.’

Madras Midtown Round Table 42 is the exclusive charity partner for all the rikshaw rallies. For Malabar Rampage – 2016, Madras Midtown Round Table 42 is having close co-operation with Round Table 128 Panaji and Round Table 115 Mangalore.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Deepak Ramani, Honorary Tabler, Mangalore Round Table 115, said that their association with Mallikatte Government School was a part of a long term plan.

“We helped them in the construction of classrooms, toilet blocks and also with classroom furniture worth Rs 5.5 lakhs earlier. Today we handed over 50 chairs,” he said.

He informed that there is a proposal of painting the school building for which they have partnered with Rikshaw Challenge Malabar Rampage – 2016. The participants who visited the school today will return to their home countries after the completion of the rally and help Mangalore Round Table 115 with the funding.
