Mangaluru: The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has implemented restrictions on all forms of head cover in the exam hall during recruitment exams for various boards and corporations to prevent malpractice. While the dress code does not explicitly ban the hijab, it implies such restrictions. The move is part of an effort to prevent exam malpractices, particularly the use of Bluetooth devices.
Earlier, on November 6, a woman appearing for the Karnataka Public Service Commission examination was asked to remove her ‘mangalsutra’ before entering the exam hall. Following protests by Hindutva groups, the KEA has now allowed women to wear mangalsutra and toe rings while restricting other jewelry.
The upcoming recruitment exams for various boards and corporations are scheduled for November 18 and 19 across the state. The controversy arises amidst a backdrop of earlier debates regarding the allowance of hijab during competitive exams and subsequent restrictions due to concerns over malpractice.
