Bantwal: Dakshina Kannada district has been receiving extensive rainfall for the last few days in many places disrupting electricity supply. The village of Kukkipadi in Bantwal taluk is bearing the brunt of rainfall which has not only affected electricity and water supply but has put people’s lives in danger.

In the Erody locality of the village, the water supply stopped soon after the rainfall started as the water pump is completely damaged. In addition many shrubs have grown around the electric poles where short circuits occurs frequently disrupting power supply. In addition, the low capacity transformer has failed to provide adequate voltage to the agricultural pump sets in the area putting the entire village life in jeopardy. The high tension wires which are more than 35 years old are hanging loosely and are within the reach of school going children putting their lives in danger.

Though repeated complaints have been given by the affected people to the MESCOM authorities and elected representatives, none have turned back to address their grievances though it was assured during the annual gram pachayath meeting last year that the problems would be solved.
