Mangaluru: Suresh D. Palli, a reporter at Hosadigantha in the press media category, and Bharath Raj K. Sanil, a reporter with Asianet Suvarna News in the visual media category, were recently presented with the prestigious Brand Mangaluru Award by the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Association.
The Press Day function, inaugurated by Police Commissioner Kuldeep R Jain at Pathrakarthara Bhavan, witnessed the recognition of these outstanding journalists. Commissioner Jain lauded the concept of Brand Mangaluru, emphasizing its significance in showcasing the true heritage of Mangalore to the world. He commended the inclusion of cartoon screenings and student participation as part of the Press Day celebration.

Dr. Sadananda Perla, a retired Programme Management Officer from All India Radio, presented the award and expressed the importance of journalism in addressing community issues, focusing on the concerns of the common man and farmers. He emphasized that journalism should strive for positive societal transformation and serve as a platform for voicing the concerns of the masses to politicians. Perla highlighted the need for journalists to embrace developmental journalism and play a pivotal role in the nation’s progress.
Shrinivas Nayak Indaje, President of the Journalists’ Association, presided over the event. The function was attended by dignitaries including P.B. Harish Rai, President of the Press Club; Ramakrishna R, President of the Press Bhavan Trust; Raviraj, District Information Officer; Manohar Prasad, Senior Journalist; Jagannath Shetty Bala, State Committee Member; Ibrahim Adkasthala, State Committee Nominated Member; Annu Mangaluru, Former President of the Mangalore Press Club, and others.

The felicitation letter of the awardees was read out by Treasurer Pushpa Raj B.N. and Vice-President Bhaskar Rai Katta, while Mohammed Arif presided the event, The function also included the felicitation of Poovappa, a retired employee of the Information Department.

In conjunction with Press Day, an exhibition featuring cartoons and sketches by renowned cartoonist John Chandran was inaugurated by Commissioner of Police Kuldeep R Jain at Pathrakarthara Bhavan, adding an artistic touch to the event.
