‘Reading books develop desirous dreams among children’

Mangaluru: Developing interest in reading books among school children makes them thinks out of the box and that results in desirous dreams in them, said Vasanth Kumar Perla, the famous poet and Literary author after inaugurating a day long workshop ‘Akshara Teru Savira Vasantha’ to inculcate reading habits among school children.

Perla who spoke on the occasion said, “If we stand in support of children’s dreams, they will grow as a very good students and become responsible citizens in the society”.

Member of Beary Sahitya Academy, Abdul Rahim T K stressed on the fact that we have to keep the dreams in students alive and make them achieve their desire.

Five students from each government residential schools in Mangaluru, Mulki, Udupi, Madikeri and from the neighbouring districts have been chosen to take part in the workshop by Varna Foundation, Koppa, who organised the workshop.

Varna Foundation is trying to build interest in literature among children with the motto of ‘Spend some time for society’. The founders of Varna foundation said, that they have reached thousand students of fifteen schools across 5 districts.

“Till now we have provided books to fifteen schools. Once in three months those books will be reshuffled between the schools. So, each student will get to read books worth nearly Rs 12000, but morally invaluable. During the reshuffling, some of the leaders of various organizations will hold discussion with the students so that it will be helpful for the overall development of students. We even get to know the choice of books and the subjects preferred by them,” they added.

After the inaugural function, Akshata Kudla, a product of Swaroopa Adhyayana Kendra, who presently works in Aloysius Gonzaga School as one of the faculties, taught folk songs beating the tambourine. That got the students engrossed in the activity in no time. They also sang along with her.

Dikshita taught them how to make ‘Goodudeepa’, while Arjun Manjunath taught them ‘Ranga Geethe’ and Laveena and Vilina showed them how prepare a ‘Mask’.

Fr Hannibal Gabriel, secretary KACES was also present.
