Mangaluru: The District Congress office observed the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on May 21.
Speaking on the occasion, district incharge minister Ramanath Rai said that Rajiv Gandhi was a humble person and contributed a lot to the development of the nation. He was a role model to all the youth. Involvement of women in local body elections, Panchayath Raj, Information technology and several others were the contributions of Gandhi.
“Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated as he was not given enough security how the other ex-prime ministers were given. Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi both gave their lives for the sake of the nation,” he said.
MLA J R Lobo stated that Rajiv Gandhi was an outstanding leader and always worked for the progress of the nation. He said, “Working together hard and developing the party from grass root level will be the best tribute we can give.”
Rai, Lobo and other Congress leaders offered floral tribute to Rajiv Gandhi’s portrait on the occasion.
MLA Mohiuddin Bawa, MUDA chairman Kodijal Ibrahim and others were present.
