Mangalore: Urging  the Central Government to  refrain from banning arecanut, growers  of the district under the aegis of the DK unit of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) organized a protest on Monday December 16. The agitators blocked the roads at Rao Circle to draw the attention of the government towards their demand.

During the protest, KPRS District Secretary Yadhav Shetty pointed out that  none of the 11 countries across the world which grow arecanut have imposed a ban on the product. “If at all a ban is imposed in India, it will adversely affect the lives of farmers,” he said.
