Mangaluru: As a result of choked drains, rain water after heavy downpour rushed into the old fish market near Rao and Rao Circle, Hampankatta, Mangaluru on Thursday night.

The drainage work in the area began a month ago, but is not yet completed. Moreover, the mud dug out is dumped on the nearby road itself.

Repeated complaints have fallen to deaf ears with the concerned authorities doing nothing to solve the problem.

The mud heaped on the side of the drains was flown back into the drain, due to which they got choked. The water instead of flowing through the drains, now flow directly on the road. The water rushed into nearby shops too on the road side on Thursday night.

People running their business in the fish market have alleged that the present situation is due to the negligence of the MCC officials. If the drainage work is not completed soon, the vendors in the vicinity have threatened to protest in front of the MCC office.
