Railway conducts special check, collects Rs 2.12 lakh from ticketless passengers

Mangaluru: Due to a drop in ticket sales in Mangaluru- Kannur Section, a special check was conducted by the officers, inspectors, the ticket checking staff and the railway protection force recently. A sum of Rs 2,12,690 was collected as a penalty within two days.

Sources in the Railway department informed that this special check was conducted under the direction of Divisional Railway Manager Pratap Singh Shami. A total number of 661 ticketless travellers were slammed with a penalty and an amount of Rs 2,12,690 was collected between Mangaluru and Kannur.

At Mangaluru platform itself, 218 cases were detected and Rs 67,445 was collected. The Malabar Express, The Trivandrum Express and the passenger trains carried maximum ticketless passengers. The ticketless travellers were counselled to take season tickets and UTS ticket using a mobile phone, sources informed.
