Mangaluru: If thoughts make things, then one need quality in thinking, and today’s quality is tomorrow’s future, said Prof. K.Raghothama Rao, resource person at Medha’16, a seminar for engineering students organized by Ramakrishna Math at Mangaluru on September 3, 2016.

Quality in thought and action should have Discipline, Devotion and Dedication as its core content. To improve the quality of participation it is necessary that one has to stay tuned with concentration, Prof Rao said.

“It is not easy to perform qualitatively and to do so one has to enhance their quality in learning, participation and application. What sells more in this world is quality. Inquisitiveness is the essential quality for learning. Quality means fit for use and quality is not associated with cost, but could be associated with product or service,” said Prof Rao.

“Innovation is another key to quality and that innovation leads to invention and imagination lead to Imagineering,” added Rao.

Prof Rao further said that kaizen is a Japanese system, by which big results are achieved from small changes accumulated over time. Small improvements coupled with continuous improvements should be the practice. Observation is one of the keys to this practice, he said.

Kaizen is continuous improvement that is based on certain guiding principles:

• Good processes bring good results
• Go see for yourself to grasp the current situation
• Speak with data, manage by facts
• Take action to contain and correct root causes of problems
• Work as a team
• Kaizen is everybody’s business
• And much more!

One of the most notable features of kaizen is that big results come from many small changes accumulated over time.

Swami Bodhamayanandaji from Ramakrishna math, Hyderabad was also a resource person on the occasion.
