Pulse Polio on Jan 18, special focus on migrants

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district administration will conduct Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Program (IPPI) on January 18 for children between the ages of 0-5 years, with special focus on the migrants. 

Chairing the preparatory meeting of health workers, A.B Ibrahim sought the co-operation of all sections of the society to encourage participation, especially the urban population and migrants. He said, the World Health Organization has certified India as Polio-Free country. Hence, it is important to see that vaccination reaches every child, he said.

As part of the program, there will be a bhooth activity on January 18. In addition to it, the health workers will visit houses on January 19 and 20, in the rural areas, where as it will be for three days from January 19 in urban areas, he added.

Dr. Ramkrishna Rao, District Health Officer said there are 1.68 lakh children between the age of 0-5. Among them, 1692 children are migrants. On January 18, there will be 921 vaccination centers, 26 mobile units, 3808 health workers and 189 supervisors.

DC asked the health workers to concentrate on the industrialized areas, borders and semi-urban areas. He directed the education department to announce about the campaign in schools and in anganawadis to spread the message.
