Mangalore: The members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajarang Dal staged a demonstration here in front of DC’s office on Monday, demanding suspension of Kavoor Sub Inspector (SI) Umesh Kumar and two other police personnel for “assaulting Charan in the police station on October 8”.

Addressing the protesters, Mohnappa Bhandary, former MLC said we have registered a complaint against Kavoor Sub-Inspector for assaulting Charan. According to the law, the SI cannot continue in the position, after a case and FIR is registered against them. He should be immediately suspended from the duty, he urged.

Giving a brief on the incident, Jagadish Shenava, district president, Vishwa Hindu Parishad said Umesh Kumar assaulted Charan for approaching the court for bail and declining to visit the police station. We have filed a complaint against the sub Inspector for misusing power and thrashing Charan with lati-charge. Now, he is in the hospital, with serious injuries”, he said.

If he is not suspended from the duty, we will continue to protest, until the police take action against him, Shenava said. He also took the police department to task for showcasing partiality, while booking the culprits. He gave the example of Ullal incident.
