Kasargod: Prohibitory orders under Sec 144 have been imposed in Kasargod till March 27 following the unrest witnessed in the area during the bandh protesting the gruesome murder of Riyaz, a Madrasa teacher on March 21.
District collector K Jeevan Babu held an all-party peace meet on Tuesday, March 21 evening and requested all the people to ignore rumors and maintain peace in the region.
The bandh called for by the Muslim League on Tuesday, March 21 from 6 am to 6 pm was marred with incidents of clashes being reported in the area.
Riyaz, a Madikeri resident, was found lying in a pool of blood in his residential apartment provided by the mosque on Tuesday early morning. There were as many as 28 wound marks on his body. Family members of Riyaz was handed over his body and taken to his native town after the post-mortem despite a demand from Kasargod MLA N A Nellikunhu that his the body be kept for public viewing in Kasargod for people to pay homage.
