Mangalore: A group of Bajrang Dal activists along with Vishwa Hindu Parishad protested in front of the Kavoor police station on Friday October 17, demanding the suspension of the police inspector Umesh Kumar.

The alleged assault on activist Charan led to an agitation among the Dal members. The protest was lead by Jagadish Shenava district president of VHP.
Addressing the gathering, Jagadish argued that although the assistant Sub Inspector of Kavoor station filed an FIR against the inspector in connection to the assault on the youth, the department has not kept him under suspension.
“The police are under pressure due to which they are not suspending the said inspector. There was no need to beat up Charan as the case was dealt by the court and warrant was issued by the court,” he said.
However the police revolted over the protesters as the demonstration intensified in the morning, but eventually allowed the agitator to continue the protest and resorted to be silent.
The Dal activists arrived in the morning hours to the station and started shouting slogans using abusive words and racist remarks, they protested until late in the evening. Later Jagadish demanded the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Pandeshwar division, Ravikumar to suspend the inspector.
On the other hand the Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishnuvardhan said that the investigations were conducted by Moodbidri police Inspector Anantha Padmanabha and claimed no action could be taken against the accused inspector until the investigation report was ready.
The activists said that they would stage a dharna again tommorrow on Saturday October 18 in the same place if the officer was not suspended and would further intensify. They also agitated by asserting that they would declare one-day bundh.
