Mangalore:The hunger protest began by city Airport Authority of India employees, on the basis of nationwide call given by Joint Forum of Unions and Associations of Airport Authority of India, against privatization of airports by union government, here on Tuesday October 22 was called off on Friday October 26.

Addressing the protesters, Mangalore Airport Employees Union chief secretary V M Shivanna said that the process of privatization in the airports at Chennai, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Gowhati, Jaipur and Kolkata have already begun, while the tenders are floated from private enterprises in this regard. The majority of airports that are targeted for privatizations are functioning profitably and privatization move indeed created deep insecurity among the employees, said Shivanna.
The employees condemned the union government’s move by relay hunger protest, while in the next stage, the heads of different departments of airports will be picketed, added Shivanna.
