Priority is children’s immunity, health with likely third wave: CM

Mangaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj S. Bommai made his first visit to Dakshina Kannada (DK) district on Thursday August 12. He is on a visit to convene a meeting with the concerned officials to assess the Covid situation in the districts, DK , Udupi and evaluate the preventive measures in place.

Speaking to media persons after his arrival at Mangalore International Airport he said, “With the likely third wave of Corona, the attention has shifted to children’s immunity and health. While I was a Home Minister and District in-charge Minister, the project Vatsalya was undertaken in the Haveri and Udupi districts, where paediatric camps were conducted for children to acquire their health and background information, after which their immunity levels were evaluated. This project will be soon implemented in the entire State.”

CM Bommai initially paid a visit to District Wenlock Hospital, where he officially inaugurated the new 32-bed ICU unit. With the third wave in mind, he said that similar facilities will be established in all Taluk and District hospitals, ensuring that the Health Department is well prepared for the Covid situation. “However, this needs speedy implementation which I will discuss with the concerned officials, during the review meeting,” he said.

“Owing to the lessons learnt during the first wave, when the spread of Covid was due to people entering from Maharashtra and Kerala, there is strict vigilance at border locations this time. I decided to visit these districts that share a border with these two states since preventative actions in these places are essential. I have already visited Mysuru, now I am on visit to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district. It is very important to check the spread of Covid in these places,” he stressed.

Further, a new building dedicated to Baba Saheb, DR. B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan, in Urva Store, was also inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

Health Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar, Fisheries Minister S. Angara, BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel, Kannada & Culture Minister Sunil Kumar, and Minister of Social Welfare Kota Srinivas Poojari accompanied Bommai during his visit.
