Bantwal: The alleged negligence of the doctor and staff of a private hospital has claimed the life of a pregnant woman on Thursday February 6.

The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Chanchalakshi, wife of Naveen Kumar M, who hails from BC road and was admitted to Somayaji hospital. Chanchalakshi was an employee at Mescom. She was a mother of a six-year-old boy, and was pregnant with her second child.
Reportedly, Chanchalakshi was due for delivery on February 4 but as she did not have labour pains the doctors decided to induce labour and administered an injection, after which they shifted her to the labour room.
It is learnt, her condition soon worsened and she developed complications. Though her body had turned dark, doctors at the hospital reportedly asserted that the child could be saved if shifted to a hospital in Mangalore.
Hoping to save the child she was immediately taken to a private hospital in Mangalore by ambulance, but the baby died in the womb on the way.
Chanchalakshi’s husband then approached the Bantwal Town Police station to lodge a complaint against the hospital. To add to his misery, the police reportedly refused to accept the complaint.
However the newly-appointed ACP Sanjay Kumar arrived at the police station and accepted the complaint. The ASI who was on duty at Kalladka later registered the case, and are investigating the issue.
