Mangaluru: ‘Salamelada Sangrama’, the autobiography of senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary, which was released couple of days ago has bagged huge response. However, the book does not seem to have gone down well with JD(S) leader Madhu Bangarappa, who has billed the book off as a compilation of lies.
The autobiography talks of how dejected senior congress leader and former chief minister of Karnataka S Bangarappa had hurled abuses at Mrs Indira Gandhi and even tried to assault her after the post of Election Committee Chairman went to Gundurao in 1980.
Taking exception to this, Madhu, son of S Bangarappa said that if this was true then there was no way that Rajiv Gandhi would have later on made S Bangarappa the chief minister of Karnataka.
“This is not an autobiography, it is a mere compilation of lies or rather it is more of Poojary’s pot of sins that he has tried to pen down,” he attacked adding that the words of Poojary has hurt the sentiments of family and fans of S Bangarappa.
Madhu further said that the book has resorted to contempt of court as well because after Bangarappa stepped down from the position, three cases were lodged against him by his fellow Congressmen, but the court had acquitted him in all the cases. But, the book still calls him a corrupt leader, much in violation of the verdict of the court.
“I do not know in what state (mental) Poojary is now in. I would not want to claim that he is facing age-related problems or he has lost his mental balance. But, what he has written about S Bangarappa must be condemned,” said Madhu adding that Poojary who commands no respects within his party is now trying to defame others.
He said that he will not moot a defamation case because there is no way that anybody can valuate the respect and honour of S Bangarappa to claim the damages.
