Bantwal: The heated debate between Police and rickshaw drivers in connection with eviction of unauthorized shops at BC Road continued even on Thursday September 11.

As per the notice issued by the Town municipality, Crime bureau ASI had taken action against some rickshaw drivers who had parked their vehicle in non-parking areas.
Soon after ASI took action, rickshaw drivers protested against it and had discussions with ASI. ASI Chandrashekaraiah warned of strict action against those autowalas who disrupt traffic by parking in non-parking area.
Then the rickshaw drivers rushed to municipal office and urged Leena Britto of the town municipality to identify suitable place as there are more rickshaws.
The officer asked them to adjust till next Monday and assured of putting parking and non-parking flexes in the area.
She also assured them of discussing this issue in the next municipal meeting and action will be taken soon.
The Bantwal municipality and the police conducted a drive on Tuesday September 9, to remove all unauthorized shops which were functioning below the flyover on B.C Road. Rickshaw drivers opposed the decision to remove the rickshaw parking stand from its current location. The union had said that they will only agree, if the municipality provides an alternative place.
