Belthangadi: The Belthangadi police produced suspected Maoist Shivakumar alias Chenni involved in anti social activities in the court on April 4 and managed to solve a 4-year-old case in which the accused had set fire to a bike and Maruti Omni van in Kutlur village limits.
Shivakumar alias Chenni (52), a slum dweller in Koramangala of Bangalore was nabbed by J P Nagar police here few days ago. During interrogation, the accused Maoist confessed of his role in setting a bike and a Maruti Omni van on fire in Kutlur limits of Belthangadi. An active naxalite, Shivakumar has many cases pending against his name. His wife Parvathi had died in a police encounter near Idu village of Karkala Taluk on Novemeber 17. 2003.

Defending Naxal movement, Shivakumar said, “It will not be possible for police to crush the Maoist struggle. There are no incidents of Naxals killing police personnel in Karnataka.”
He rubbished the claim of state police that only 2-3 Naxals are left in the state. In such a case what is the need for Anti-Naxal Force (ANF), he questioned and said police can shut down all camps meant to combat Naxal elements.
Vittala Malekudiya has no links with Naxal movement and his arrest is related to few of his writings and because of police tagging him as Naxal, he said. He was seen raising slogans in favour of martyr Bhagath Singh and Naxal movement.
Three CPM activists were seen moving round the court at that time and the rest were murmuring over police remaining mute spectators within the court when the accused went on justifying the Naxal movment.
Shivakumar alias Chenni, a BA graduate joined Naxal movement in 1995 and formed PMLJ , an anti social organisation. He later spent 5 years in jail between 2001 and 2005. He married Parvathi in 2003 but remained in jail, when his wife got killed in an encounter.
On Novemeber 8, 2013 he joined a group of men and burnt a car and bike owned by one Ramachandra Bhat. Locals suspected the role of certain opponents of Ramchandra Bhat in the incident but with Shivakumar’s confession the truth has come to light.
