Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City police have invoked the Goonda Act against Shishila Kiran of Uppinangady, an accused arrested in connection with the attack on men and women in a pub near Hampankatte in 2009.
The police had earlier recommended the imposing of the Goonda Act against Kiran as he was reportedly involved in some of the attacks in Bantwal following the Tipu birth anniversary celebrations.
The police placed the proposal before the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim to invoke the Goonda (The Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum Grabbers Act, 1985) Act. However, the DC approved it recently.
The police recommended that the act be invoked immediately as they suspected that Kiran, who is presently lodged in Belagavi Central Prison, was still involved in several criminal activities.
