Police intercept vehicle, rescue 17 cattle, one arrested

Mangaluru: Kadri police seized a tempo traveler without a registration number, ferrying 17 cattle without permission and succeeded in rescuing 16 of them. One calf was found dead.

Circle inspector of Kadri Police station MG Nayak, stopped a tempo traveler in the morning at 4 am on Saturday, as he suspected some kind of foul play as the vehicle driver tried to evade the police team. When police team brought the vehicle to a halt, they were surprised to find a group of cattle inside the vehicle being ferried in the most inhuman manner.

Hameed Jokatte, the driver of the vehicle was arrested. Among the 17 cows and calves, one died due to severity of circumstances it was subjected to during travel.

Further investigation is in progress.
