Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police, on Tuesday, January 30 registered a Suo Motu case against VHP district president Jagadish Shenava for his statement justifying murder of Basheer.

Shenava had said that he does not feel saddened with killing of Basheer, during a book release event `Hadedavvana Shaapa’ at TV Raman Pai Convention Hall here on Sunday.

Bunder Police Sub-Inspector Ananth Murdeshwar has registered Suo Motu case under IPC 153(A), 116 in Bunder Police Station.

It may be recalled that 32-year-old youth Deepak Rao, a right-wing activist was brutally hacked to death by assailants who arrived in a car here at Samshuddin Circle in Katipalla on January 3. The same night, 47-year-old Basheer was brutally assaulted by a gang of four persons at Kottara Chowki to avenge Deepak’s murder. He breathed his last on January 7, after battling for his life for three days.

Talking about the incident, Shenava had said that if Basheer was an innocent so was Deepak and that he does not feel saddened by Basheer’s murder.
