Police arrests all-women robbery gang of TN origin

Kasaragod: Three women of Tamil Nadu origin, said to be nomads were arrested by Badiyadka police in cases related to chain and cash snatching during travel with the help of locals who alerted the police about their suspicious movements.
The arrested women are Lakshmi (34), Ayamma (28) and Murukamma (26) from Mettupalyam in Tamil Nadu. They used to operate wearing outfits to hide their identity and travel together during the robbery.

They were arrested in connection with a chain snatching case of one Venkateshwari who lost her chain while she was traveling in a bus from Neerchal to a relative’s place. The robbery took place between Badiyadka and Perla. Venkateshwari had lodged a complaint with Badiyadka police soon after she lost the chain.

With their arrest, the police are confident of solving multiple chain snatching cases in the region as the number of incidents were on the rise in the last few days. In one incident, Rekha, a hotel employee had lost a chain weighing 72 grams and in another case a woman from Uduma carrying a hand bag had lost Rs 70000 in cash.

Police are likely to take all the women into custody to get more leads in cases involving the trio.
