Mangaluru: Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence over Cauvery row, MLC Ivan D’Souza said that while Modi has time to attend a wedding in Pakistan and talk about Baluchistan crisis, he has no time to speak to Chief Minister of Karnataka over the burning Cauvery issue.
D’Souza, in a press meet on Sunday said that since the state is already witnessing scarcity of water, the legislative session has decided not to release water to TN.
Elaborating on the same, he said that a committee which has made a study on the Cauvery water reservoirs claims that there is on 27.6 TMC of water in all the four dams of Karnataka which hold Cauvery water. Krishna Raja Sagar, Hemavati, Harangi and Kabini dams have the lowest water levels ever recorded in the past and since there is no adequate drinking water for people of Karnataka, it is not possible to release water to TN for agriculture purpose.
“The people of Bengaluru and Mysuru have been alerted about the shortage of water and a call for judicious use of water has been sounded,” he said adding that being the head of the Federal system of government, the Prime Minister should have taken the lead to solve the crisis.
However, with the PM not even making a statement on the same and with the state level BJP leaders claiming that the PM will never intervene, the intentions of the BJP seems suspicious.
