Belthangady: A pickup vehicle plunged into the water of the Mrutyunjaya River on Tuesday May 26 evening at Urpel Gudde in Chibidre Village of Charmedi Panchayat here. The incident occurred due to overwhelming of river water due to rains.

The incident has not claimed any life. Heavy water was flowing as the pickup vehicle descended into the river as it was returning to M K Dayananda’s house in the Pickup vehicle of Sadananda, near Aladangady carrying materials for centering work.

The driver and another another person accompanying him saved themselves by closing the window panes in a state of panic.

The locals immediately rushed to the scene and rescued the two men. They also blocked the vehicle from being claimed by the river by tying with the rope. The submerged pickup was lifted from the water by using a crane.
