Mangaluru: A photo of a 72-year-old person being carried on a wooden chair by locals in the Balpa village of the Sullia taluk, due to inadequate road connectivity, is doing the rounds on social media.
Ironically, this village was adopted by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, who recently assumed charge as the president of the BJP’s state unit, under the flagship programme ‘Adarsha Grama’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to sources, Ramanna Poojary of Padikkalaya was suffering from an age-related illness. The locals had called for an ambulance to move the ailing Ramanna to a hospital. Unfortunately, due to poor road connectivity, the ambulance was unable to reach his house, forcing his family members to carry him on a wooden chair to the Balpa main road, where the ambulance was parked.
Sources also said that there are over 30 houses in Padikkalaya located three kilometers away from the Balpa main road. The road leading to the village has not been developed even after repeated complaints. Irked by the poor road connectivity, some people posted a photo of Ramanna being carried on a wooden chair on social media. The image has now gone viral and people are questioning Nalin for his poor response towards his “ideal village”.
