Mangalore: In yet another case of ragging recently, a physically challenged student at a government school in Nala in Belthangady taluk was forced to drink urine by his seniors.

Allegedly on August 13 three boys studying in the same school compelled the physically challenged student to drink urine. The the boy’s parents filed a complaint at the Belthangady police station on August 16, after they learnt about the incident.

According to the police, the speech and hearing-impaired boy studying in Class IV was stopped by three students of Class VI, when he was returning home from school. They grabbed his water bottle, urinated in it and made him drink the urine.

Though the boy could not properly explain the incident to his parents because of his disability, he did make some attempts, the police said.

When he refused to go to school the next day, his worried parents went to the school and enquired with the teachers. It was then that the incident came to light.

The police said the three boys had admitted to wrongdoing before their teachers. Acting on the complaint, the police have filed a case and have booked the boys.

While the Department of Public Instruction has sought a detailed report from the BEO on the incident, the boys were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Tuesday.

The Child Welfare Committee has taken cognisance of the matter and has asked the victim to appear before court in the first week of September.
