
Mangaluru: Shobha, HOD of Commerce, St Aloysius College(Autonomous), has been awarded a Ph.D. for her thesis “An Evaluation of Micro Insurance Schemes – A Study with reference to Self Help Group Members in Dakshina Kannada District” by Tumkur University.
She was successfully guided by Dr. P.N. Udayachandra, Dean & Head of the Department of Commerce, SDM College (Autonomous), Ujire.
She is the proud daughter of Sri Dharnappa& Smt. Rukmini from Thokkottu, Mangaluru, and the wife of Sri Ashok M Prasad, Assistant Professor, Department of BCA, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru.
In an interaction with News Karnataka, she said, “Insurance engrosses an important place in the complicated modern world as the insurable risk has increased immensely in every walk of life. Microinsurance is insurance meant for low-income people, It is a low-value product.”
Further, she said “The results of the study has shown that micro-insurance schemes are very much beneficial for the scheme holders. The schemes with the special features of lesser amount of premium and easy installment facility are successful in reducing the financial burden of the scheme holders.”
“The schemes helped the majority of self-help group members by reducing their out-of-pocket expenditure and increasing surplus money” she added.
“More and more insurance companies should enter into a tie-up with the NGOs and SHGs and provide insurance facilities to the needy public” she suggested.
