Bantwal :  Rayi Gram Panchayat Development Officer Venkatesh who was in the eye of a storm recently after he locked up the pump house, has now come up with a clarification stating  he  had to resort to such a step  in his effort to recover the Rs 9 lakh water bill arrears from the villagers.

Speaking to reporters at BC Road on Saturday June 7, he  said there were a total of 1009 water connections in the village and 15 pump operators. A total of 30 pump houses have to be managed and every month  water bills amounting to  Rs 75,675   has to be collected. As the water bills are not cleared it has become difficult to manage the pump houses forcing us to take  stern action, he clarified.

He also presented before the media the list of  people  who have not cleared water bills.
