Belthangady: As part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Charmadi Gram Panchayath, under the leadership of Prakash Shetty PDO, conducted road side garbage cleaning programme on the Ujire-Charmadi Road on February 8. General public, elected representatives, staffs of Panchayath and volunteers participated in the cleaning drive which began early in the morning.

Prakash Shetty expressed his unhappiness and said that when the entire Nation is involved in the Clean India Mission, it is disgraceful when the educated people indulge in littering the public places.

“We fight for our constitutional rights but have forgotten our fundamental duties to the Nation,” he said.

He further added that, “We have pledged to make Charmadi Panchayath a zero waste panchayath.  During the Abhiyan, the locality will be monitored by our volunteers and criminal proceedings will be initiated against those who litter in public places in addition to imposition of fine.”
