PaGo award conferred on Sandeep Wagle; donates prize money of Rs 10,001

Mangaluru: The Padyana Gopala Krishna(PAGO) award was presented to journalist Sandeep Wagle of the Kannada Prabha daily for his report ‘Nadige Bandu Soragida Koragaru’ published on July 26.

The award has been instituted in memory of P Gopalakrishna by PaGo Memorial Trust, and is presented annually by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union (DKWJU).

The award consisting of rupees 10,001 cash, a certificate and a memento was presented by Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, district president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad at an event held at press club here on Saturday April 15.

Wagle donated the prize money so received to a needy Koraga family of Manteapadavu, Manjanady.

During the occasion Journalist Manohar Prasad, Savitramma wife of Padyana Gopala Krishna, Khader Sha district information officer, Dakshina Kannada Working Journalist Union president Jaganath Shetty Bala and others were present.

Speaking on this occasion Wagle said “A journalist should never present his personal views in his report and he should identify himself in any of the political party”. he also expressed his dilemma over the present trend of glorifying the issue in journalism for the sake of personal benefit.
