Mangalore :  The waste dumping yard at Pachanady in the outskirts of Mangalore  which has been emanating a foul smell  since long has made life miserable for residents of Pachanady  and Santosh Nagar.

The people of the area  along with their corporator Kavitha Sanil have already taken up cudgels against the MCC authorities. They say the contractor concerned has failed in doing his duty and  ensure that the waste water stored in the compost plant is cleared. With garbage getting wet during heavy rains and no steps taken towards effective waste management, the  entire area is stinking  making life tough for residents of the area. They are left with no option but to move around with their noses covered. The  seeping water from the garbage yard has also contaminated local water sources posing health risks. Even garbage is taken in open containers creating problems, residents point out.

They want a permanent solution to the problem and want the MCC to act fast. They also point out that so far they have only got assurances but not concrete action.
