Mangalore : An Awareness and Outreach programme on ‘Malaria and Dengue Prevention’ was held at Town Hall on July 27, Saturday under the joint aegis of the Health Concern Foundation and District Health and Family Welfare Department.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare UT Khader who was the chief guest, said the state government accorded top most priority to the healthcare sector and also to control communicable diseases. He also exhorted the youth to take the initiative in creating awareness in the society.
The Ministers said the Health Department would soon launch a District Health Team which will visit schools and examine students. The teams will have two doctors, two nurses, he informed.
JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South, who presided over the function, the spread of contagious diseases like Malaria can be prevented when public extend a helping hand to the MCC as well as the health department.
Ajith Kumar, City Corporation Commissioner, Dr Shivakumar, District Health Officer, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC, Mohiudeen Bava, MLA of Mangalore North, D M Majumdar, DGM of Corporation Bank, Mahabaleshwar Bhat, General Manager of Karnataka Bank and Dr Edmond Fernandes, CEO of Health Concern Foundation were present as chief guests.
Students of various colleges presented cultural programmes. There was also a quiz for the audience. Dr Uday Kiran and Dr Ramachandra Kamath were the key-note speakers.
Prior to the function, there was an Awareness Walk from Milagres College to Town Hall.
The Health Concern Foundation members also visited several parts of the city where there were incidences of Malaria and Dengue.
