Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh asked the migrant labourers not to pay heed to rumours and assured that the district administration will send all of them back home in phases.

Speaking to the press here on Wednesday, May 13, the DC said that a total of 40,510 migrant labourers have already registered their names through the Seva Sindhu app. “However, the receiving states need to give their permission before we send the migrant labourers. Even though some states have already consented to receive their people, Jharkhand is yet to give their nod. The state government is trying to approach the Jharkhand government and the migrant labourers of Jharkhand will soon be sent after we get their consent,” she informed.

DC Sindhu added that a total of 12,700 migrant labourers from 25 districts including Bagalkot, Vijayapur and others have already departed from the district. Procedures are underway to send the migrant labourers of other states back to send their native places.

“As maintaining social distance is a must, one train can ferry only 1,460 people at a time,” she said.
