Mangalore : Union Minister for Transport, Road and Highways Oscar Fernandes has promised special focus on the development of the twin districts.
Speaking at a discussion on ‘Development and Progress of Coastal Karnataka’ organised by Rachana, Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Bishop House here on September 22, Sunday, Oscar proposed the appointment of an Additional Personal Secretary to oversee progress of various projects in DK and Udupi districts.
On this occasion, the Rachana and Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo submitted memoranda enlisting various demands aimed at development of the region.
The memorandum by JR Lobo highlighted the need for flyovers at Nantur, Pumpwell, development of Bangalore-Mangalore highway, taking up of tunnel road in Shirady Ghat on priority basis and sanction of JNNURM Project for Mangalore. Another demand placed forth was to upgrade the NITK, Suratkal.
Referring to the Nanthur fly over project, Oscar said funds are in the sanctioning stage and pointed out that shifting of cables and pipelines have delayed the project. On the tunnel way at Shiradi Ghat, he said it was under consideration.
The Union Minister was felicitated by Mangalore Bishop Rev. Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza on behalf of the Diocese.
